Happy New Year!  I am so glad that it is 2021 and that this year will bring many new things.  Did you make any resolutions?  I usually make too many or they are unrealistic. I plan to drink more water and meditate more as my health goals. There is a free 21 day challenge going on right now on the Ten Percent Happier App that you may want to check out.  And I plan on following a better schedule to release patterns.  I feel like I’m always 2 steps behind.  I have so many ideas in my head, but don’t get my patterns on paper as soon as I should. I also plan to add more things to my Etsy shop, but may change my focus from shawls and scarves to something else, maybe home decor?  Let me know if there are patterns or items that you would like to see. Just add a comment.

For now, here’s a free pattern for a crochet heart.  You can hang it from your curtain rod, a cupboard door handle, or a lamp switch to add a little Valentine’s Day decor, and since I’m trying to do things earlier this year, this will give you lot’s of time to make them before the holiday is actually here!

This pattern can be made using any small amount of any yarn.  Measurements given above are approximate and will vary depending of the weight of yarn and hook used.  I used leftover sock yarn to worsted weight and hook sizes F to H. Ch 3 at beg of rounds counts as a dc.  Ch 2 in corners are referred to as corner spaces.

Ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, *ch 2, 3 dc in ring, repeat from * 2 times, ch 2,  join to top of beg ch 3 with a sl st.  12 dc and 4 corner spaces

Round 2: Ch3, 1 dc between next 2 dc twice, *(2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) in corner sp, 1 dc between next 2 dc twice, repeat from * 2 times, (2 dc, ch2, 1 dc) in last corner sp, sl st to top of beg ch 3 to join.  24 dc(6 on each side) and 4 corner sp(s)

Round 3:  Worked on  2 sides of square only, ch 4, sk 2 dc, sl st in next dc, 2 sl st in corner sp, sl st in next 2 dc, ch 4, sk 2 dc, sl st in next 2 dc and in next corner sp, turn.  8 sl st, 8 ch

You can tie a string to the top of your heart and hang in your window or use smaller thread to make a necklace or earrings.
