This is part 2 of the Santa Baby Layette Set. I did not have enough of the yarn that I made the Santa hat and the diaper cover with and it was on back order, so I improvised. I bought new yarn! As you can imagine, it was quite a sacrifice…who doesn’t like to shop for yarn! I found a great deal at Hobby Lobby, all the yarn was 30% off, so I did not feel too bad. Any chunky yarn and fuzzy/furry yarn should work.
6 skeins of Hobby Lobby I Love This Chunky 3.5 oz/109 yds, 100 g/100 meters, 100% acrylic in red velvet, used 609 yds; 1 skein YarnBee Snuggle Up 3.5 oz/98 yds, 100 g/90 meters, 100% polyester in white, used 28 yds.
Hook—size K/10.5/6.50 mm
10 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches
28 inches x 32 inches
sl st—slip stitch
Row 1: RS-using the chunky yarn ch 82, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each st across, turn. 80 dc
Row 2: WS-ch 1, sl st in ea st across, turn. 80 sl st
Row 3: RS-ch 1, sc in ea sl st across, turn. 80 sc
Row 4: WS-ch 1, sl st in ea st across, turn. 80 sl st
Row 5: RS-ch 2, dc in ea sl st across, turn. 80 dc
Repeat rows 2 through 5 to desired length. Fasten off after the last dc row. I did a total of 18 repeats—19 dc rows, 18 sc rows, sl st rows on WS of each row except the last dc row
Trim-join white yarn to any corner.
Row 1: make 3 sc in ea corner, 1 sc in ea st across on bottom and top rows, 1 sc at ends of sc and sl st rows, and 2 sc at ends of dc rows, sl st to beg sc to join.
Row 2: ch 1, sc in ea sc around, 3 sc in ea corner sc, sl st to 1st sc to join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
